What is a Web site ?

A web site is simply a series of pages that are electronically placed on a computer that can then be accessed by anyone in the World. Your pages can be animated, full colour, interactive and changed at very low cost and can be any size. Typically a page is A4 width but can be 6ft long, surfers scrolling down as they go.

You have a "home" page. This links you to the world. Surfers go this home page first, and then navigate through the rest of your Web site.

Your site can be one page or one hundred ! If you are a larger business you can even use your web site internally (an intranet) to disseminate information. All your sales staff can work from the same document on your intranet. No more multiple copies of the latest prices. Publish once, on your intranet !
The internet is a superb medium through which you can provide large amounts of information about a wide range of topics. The use of interactive techniques can enhance the appearance of the site and make information more accessible to visitors. The opportunities for creating entirely new businesses are vast. But it is the fear of loosing your existing business that should be a prime motivator for having a web site.
