Roof

Roof setting are controlled by a Floating Inspector. All aspects of the Roof are generated here.

Roofs are parametric and can be changed on the fly. Changing, for example, a height will be reflected throughout the whole model file and will affect all roofs with this name.

We have 4 methods for creating a roof. This flexibility allows for a host of roof shapes to be made with considerable ease. Click on the tool buttons below to get a full explanation of what each setting does..

Construction of a roof is made in PLAN view. The tool is parametric and thus any changes in pitch, open or closed ends, materials etc will be reflected throughout the model on the fly, as is the case with most other tools.

Basic steps for creating a Roof that apply to all roof types.

  1. Double click or Option Click the Roof Tool.
  2. Select the Add Roof button (Plus icon)
  3. Give the Roof a name.
  4. Give the Roof a thickness and material and either pitch or height.
  5. Apply. This confirms your settings. When used with an existing model this will change all the settings for that Roof throughout the whole model.

Roof Type is the root and allows access to the roof construction methods. Click on each tool to get a full description of each method.

Edge: This selects the edge style

End: Controls for open or closed as an option.

Tips

We do not trim to Walls in this version. If you need to nestle a roof up to a wall just draw it as tho it is next to the wall before using extend tool.
