Lights

LIGHTS is used in conjunction with PAINTER to achieve thousands of variations in rendering of the 3D model.

The controls here need little explanation. Experimentation is the best way to achieve the result you desire as the combinations are numerous.

Some useful explanations:

APPLY: As with other tools this confirms the setting when you create a new light.

AMBIENT: Overall level of light in the model.

DIFFUSE SETTING: This is light that has low contrast and no obvious highlights or 'hotspots'.

SPECULAR: This light is a 'highlight' and adds a level of gloss to a surface. This is best used with a GRAY light rather than full white light.

HEIGHT: Sets the height of the light to simulate anything from Noon to dusk.

DIRECTION: Where the light is positioned relative to the model.

SHADOWBIAS: This setting changes the Offsets from the object that casts them. Lowering the Bias value moves shadows closer to the object, and can help to anchor objects to floors etc.

SHADOW INTENSITY: To lighten or darken shadows.

NOTE: Painter techniques are only visible when Shadows is enabled.
